The Birla Education Trust, founded in 1929 started an intermediate college with Science and Pharmacy in 1943 and 1950 respectively, between those two colleges the Birla College of Engineering came into the existence in 1946 with degree programs Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
In 1955, master’s degree program in Electronics was introduced in the Birla College of Engineering. And then in 1964, the Birla College of Science, Engineering and Pharmacy were incorporated to form the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS).
BITS Pilani conferred as a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 on 18th June 1964, tied up with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston (USA).
In 2000, BITS Pilani started its first international campus BITS Pilani Dubai Campus likewise BITS Pilani Goa Campus was started in 2004, and BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus opened in 2008.

Admission for Integrated First Degree Programs at BITS Pilani can be possible through three ways:
Route No. 1. Through BITS Admission Test (BITSAT)
Route No. 2. Direct Admission based on 12th Std. Marks
Route No. 3. Through SAT Exam

1. BITS Admission Test (BITSAT)
The BITS Admission Test or BITSAT is a highly competitive national-level entrance exam conducted by BITS Pilani for admission to Integrated First Degree (B.E.), M.Sc. and B.Pharm programs offered at BITS Pilani campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.
BITSAT is conducted in two sessions every year. BITSAT 2026 will be conducted in two sessions as well; students can appear in both sessions or only one session amongst two sessions (either session I or session II) as per their choice.
Let’s say someone couldn’t apply or appear for the session I, he/she can apply and appear for the session II, or someone appeared for the session I and the secured score is not as expected can apply and appear in session II, higher score will be considered for the selection process.
After appearing BITSAT, candidates asked to submit their program and campus preference, based on their score and rank they will get the allotments.

2. Direct Admission based on 12th Grade Marks

If you are aspiring to get admission to premium technical institutions in India, BITS Pilani can be an excellent option, as it is considered as good as some of the IITs, NITs and IIITs.
Candidates willing to apply at BITS Pilani Direct Admission need to meet the eligibility criteria specified by BITS Pilani apart from being a topper or top rank holder in board. It is compulsory to apply for BITSAT-2026 for them.
Programs for BITS Pilani Direct Admission
BITS Pilani Direct Admission offered to candidates eligible under the BITS Pilani Direct Admission scheme for Integrated First Degree (B.E.) programs along with other programs such as M.Sc. and B.Pharm (Pharmacy) offered at BITS Pilani Campuses.
Eligible students who have Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects in 12th Grade, can apply for any programs as per their choice, however candidates who have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects can apply for only B.Pharm (Pharmacy) and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering.
Eligibility for BITS Pilani Direct Admission
Candidates who are aspiring to apply for BITS Pilani Direct Admission scheme must fulfill the necessary requirements. The eligibility criteria for BITS Pilani Direct Admission are as follows:
Candidates must have completed their 12th grade examination under the 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or an equivalent qualification.
A minimum of five subjects is required, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one Language, and any additional subject beyond these four.
Candidates must secure: An aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology, and at least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics individually.
Fee Structure for BITS Pilani Direct Admission
The Fee Structure for BITS Pilani Direct Admission scheme is same as the admission through BITSAT. For the Academic Year 2025-26, the tuition or term fees for Integrated First Degree (B.E., M.Sc., and B.Pharm) Programs was 5,50,000/- per annum (2,75,000/- per semester), apart from there are miscellaneous fees like Student’s Union Fee, Student’s Aid Fund, Mess and Electricity charges, etc.

3. Admission through SAT
BITS Pilani offers admission for Integrated First Degree (B.E. M.Sc. and B.Pharm) programs to international students. Students applying under this scheme should be foreign nationals (holding foreign passports), but in place of BITSAT they can appear in the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) administered by College Board (USA).
Eligibility for Admission through SAT
For admission to all the Integrated First Degree (B.E. M.Sc. and B.Pharm) programmes, candidates should have passed the 12th grade examination of the 10+2 system from a recognized board or its equivalent with adequate proficiency in English.
Except for admission to B.Pharm. and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering with PCB input, the candidates should have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subjects.
Candidate applying under ISA scheme should have obtained a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Mathematics, & Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subjects with at least 60% marks in each of these subjects in the 12th grade examination for B.E. and M.Sc. programs.
Candidate should have a minimum aggregate score of 1160 (out of maximum of 1600) in SAT (new format) which includes a Reading & Writing and Mathematics test.
Fees for Admission under SAT
BITS Pilani Fee Structure for AY 2026-208 for International Students Admission Scheme through SAT score, is 7,00,500 per semester for Non-SAARC students and 4,12,000 per semester for SAARC students, and there are miscellaneous fees as well.
